Menopause Q & A

What is menopause?

Menopause is a natural process, a term referring to the point at which your body has not produced a menstrual period in 12 months. The time leading up to menopause, perimenopause, is when the body gradually produces fewer and fewer reproductive hormones until your menstrual cycle stops.

What are some signs that you’re nearing menopause?

Examples of the most common signs that you’re nearing menopause are:

  • Dry skin
  • Hot flashes
  • Irregular periods
  • Irritability and mood swings
  • Night sweats
  • Trouble sleeping
  • Thinning hair
  • Vaginal dryness

If you are experiencing any of these menopausal symptoms make your appointment to see Dr. Babino at WellnessMD.

How can I ease the discomfort of menopause?

If you’re extremely uncomfortable during menopause, consider talking to Dr. Babino about herbal therapies or bio-identical hormones replacement therapy.

What are Bio-identical Hormones?

Bioidentical hormones are structurally the same as the hormones your own body produces. They’re extracted from plants, such as yams and then synthesized to imitate your own hormones.

Dr. Babino recommends bio-identical hormones over synthetic hormones because they’re natural and have few side effects, even with long-term use.

Bio-identical hormones can be administered via cream, patches or pellets.

What are Hormone Pellets?

The majority of women are not familiar with hormone pellets. They are made up of bio-identical hormones that are pressed into small solid cylinders, slightly larger than a grain of rice. Hormone pellets deliver consistent healthy levels of hormones for 3-6 months. When compared to conventional hormone replacement therapy, studies show that pellets are superior for relief of menopausal symptoms, restoration of sleep patterns, maintenance of bone density, improvement in sex drive and sexual response. They are also important for brain health and disease prevention.
